Maintenance Superintendent

General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for keeping the operation running smoothly and safely. The Superintendent will manage several teams of people and is responsible for safety, equipment reliability and taking control of maintenance costs. In addition, the Superintendent is responsible for promoting the safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, KMC Mining policies, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and upholding the vision, values and mission of the Company.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of site maintenance by working with subject matter experts, professionals, operators, and supervision, covering the operations itself, the associated processes within designated areas, and related activities.
  • Work with Senior Management, and other Superintendents to ensure safe equipment operations and maximize reliability and minimize costs.
  • Responsible for all the people (including contractors), equipment, tools, spare parts and materials in area of responsibility.
  • Prepare and approve preventative maintenance and other plans, allocate work to their teams, oversee progress, solve problems and take corrective action when required.
  • Prepare and negotiate large budgets and monitor spending.
  • Prepare reports and briefs on equipment, safety, progress on projects and other matters.
  • Lead and participate in meetings and briefings, both formal and informal.
  • Work with Engineering department on equipment performance and operations.
  • Recruit, train and develop their employees, with support from Maintenance Supervisors and Human Resource (HR) specialists.
  • Provide mentorship to a team of professionals and ensure their skills and knowledge continuously develop.
  • Work with trade union(s), supervisors and HR department to avoid and resolve personnel issues and grievances.
  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors/consultants, and;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Formal Education

  • Journeyperson Off Road Mechanic / Red Seal or Post-secondary degree or diploma in engineering or mining is required *.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 8+ years’ heavy equipment experience in heavy construction or mining industry.
  • Minimum 8+ years’ supervisory experience including several years as a Maintenance Supervisor in heavy construction or mining industry.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in the use of mining systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, equipment performance and the mining environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizing, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative and performance orientated.
  • Strong ability to lead in a diverse environment.
  • Tactful and diplomatic.
