Project Estimator

General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Director, Business Development and Engineering, the Project Estimator is responsible for cost analysis and competitive bid management using in-house bidding and estimating software. In addition, the Project Estimator will provide innovative construction solutions to ensure successful execution of various commercial projects. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for promoting the KMC safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, KMC policy, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and upholding the values of KMC Mining.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Analyze and respond to tender documents;
• Review quantities according to plans and specifications;
• Prepare preliminary work schedules;
• Report proposal and/or operational risk issues of prospective commercial projects;
• Ensure responsiveness to clients during the bidding process and Initiate remedial measures as appropriate;
• Analyze market and competitive trends;
• Organize subcontractors’ quotes following and prior to successful bids;
• Demonstrate bid competitiveness with the management team;
• Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions;
• Present to key stakeholders on scope of work, execution and business opportunities;
• Maintain files and working documents as back up information to be relied on;
• Assist the bidding and estimating team as it pertains to equipment, personnel and other resource allocations;
• Maintain a high standard of performance and drive accountability for health and safety standards;
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including KMC Partners and other industry affiliates;
• Ensure the company complies with all aspects of the bid proposal;
• Work with Finance personnel to set and steward to project budgets;
• Implement estimating best practices; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Formal Education

• Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Economics or Commerce;

Work Experience

• 5 years’ occupational experience;
• 2 years’ managerial experience.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizing, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative and performance orientated.
• Strong ability to work as part of a support team and adapt to changing stakeholder requirements.
• Tactful and diplomatic.
• Conflict resolution skills.
