Maintenance Supervisor & Senior Supervisors

Scope:

The role of the Maintenance Supervisor and Sr. Supervisor is to ensure the mechanical availability of company equipment is maximized through the safe and effective use of sound maintenance standards and practices by their crew.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure employees perform in a safe, healthy and environmentally secure manner;
• Communication of short and long term company plans and work assignments to the employees;
• Ensure overall effectiveness and productivity of the work crew;
• Performance management and discipline, up to and including termination of employment;
• Ensure the coaching, training, and development of employees. Assist employees by addressing constraints that affect their ability to meet or exceed the daily maintenance plans and schedules;
• Ensure the work environment is supportive of the company's values of inclusion, engagement and respect.

Education/Experience Requirements:

• Post Secondary Diploma( 2-3 years) or
• Post Secondary education in a trade oriented discipline trade certification and or equivalent experience
• Supervision experience dealing with Mining Equipment and Maintenance.

Senior Trainer

KMC Mining – 
Fort McMurray, AB

General Accountabilities: 

The Senior Trainer will oversee the planning, organizing, coordinating and implementation of the company’s training program for both production and maintenance. In addition, the Senior Trainer shall provide the training and competency assessments to the company workforce. In addition, the Senior Trainer is responsible for promoting the KMC safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, Company policy, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of KMC Mining.

Specific Accountabilities: 

  • Provide fair, accurate and thorough assessments of employee’s skills and abilities.
  • Work closely with the Operations, Maintenance and Health & Safety team to identify employee training needs;
  • Evaluate new and rehired employees for competency and determine what training is necessary;
  • Submit and upload paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Ensure employee training records are accurate, thorough, and up-to-date.   
  • Ensure document tracking and control practices are in place;
  • Ensure documents are signed off by appropriate approval authorities;
  • Maintain documents and update as required.
  • Provide employees with comprehensive training in the safe use and movement of equipment, highlighting KMC’s safe operating procedures.
  • Ensure routine audits are conducted and corrective measures put in place. Assist in incident investigations from time to time.
  • Perform safe work observations;
  • Present findings and provide recommendations and solutions following incidents;
  • Instruct courses such as: Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, Confined space and others.
  • Coordinate and schedule external trainers for training activities.
  • External courses may includechainsaw, piper fusion, overhead crane, rigging and airbrakes.
  • Promote a positive employer/employee relationship with all employees.
  • Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.

 Formal Education: *

  •  High School Diploma or higher
  • Journeyman Trades Ticket is desired or equivalent experience in the mining environment.

 Work Experience:

  •  3 to 5 years of occupational experience

 Technical Skills:

  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding/proficiency of Heavy Equipment in the Mining Industry

Mining Manager

KMC Mining –

General Accountabilities: 

Reporting to the Project Manager the Mining Manager is responsible for leading and oversight of the mine operations department. Ensure the execution of the scope of work is in accordance with the SCWP and operational mine plan. Responsible for the safe, efficient and cost effective utilization and care of equipment and mining crews. In addition, the Mining Manager is responsible for adhering to all provincial and federal law, Company policy, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of the Thiess KMC Joint Venture. 

Specific Accountabilities: 

  • Ensure the Health & Safety Management Plan is communicated, implemented, and followed across site along with safety performance measures of direct reports and self are achieved.
  • Ensure all incidents (near miss) are reported and investigated in accordance with the Incident Notification, Recording, Investigation, and Reporting procedures and close / “sign off” on loss control reporting.
  • Lead, provide guidance and direction to direct reports on meeting mine plan, and in consultation with the leadership team.
    Follow up on the execution of the mine plan in operations performance and people management.
    Provides budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Identify training requirements for the department and adopt companywide training programs and processes.
  • Responsible for the execution of the pit/mine plans, production targets and objectives and fostering teamwork and collaboration of crews.
  • Ensure no work is carried out which could be detrimental to the environment or compromise the project, without the appropriate approvals and mitigation plans.
  • Provide clear performance expectations to personnel and reinforce correct behaviour through recognition and encouragement as well as application of corrective measures and procedures.
  • Complete performance management process for direct reports and ensure direct reports are requiring the same of their staff.
  • Identify and participate in the training and development of direct reports and in the Department.
  • Manage employee relations and performance issues with department leadership.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve overall performance and create win-win situations for both Thiess KMC and client.
  • Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.

Formal Education: *

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline (or field)

Work Experience:

  • 10-15 years of related mining experience
  • Prior leadership experience in an mining environment
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, equipment performance, and the mining environment

Accounts Payable Clerk

KMC Mining –

General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounts Payable Clerk monitors and inputs data, reconciles client reporting figures, communicates with operations, manages the filing system, and otherwise assists the Accounts Payable Department. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for promoting the safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, KMC policies, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of KMC Mining.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Ensure timely payment of all KMC Mining vendors.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of all vendor invoices before posting to internal system called Explorer.
  • Prepare and send remittances to all vendors by cheque or EFT on a semi-monthly basis.
  • Review and input timesheets of subcontracted field labour.
  • Reconcile vendor statement and visa accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare employee expenses and enter them into Explorer for payment.
  • Attend to and monitor vendor inquires in a timely manner and ensure that KMC Mining’s existing relationships are maintained.
  • Ensure high standard of time management practices by prioritizing tasks and allowing enough time to complete both routine tasks and urgent tasks as required.
  • Create ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Communicate with field operations to confirm accurate reporting and to address errors or miscalculations.
  • Reconcile client reporting with internal calculations to determine appropriate payment.
  • Contact clients to resolve discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Perform daily financial transactions; including, verifying, classifying, posting, and recording data.

Formal Education: *

  • High School Diploma
  • Post-Secondary Education is preferred

Work Experience:

  • 2 years of related occupational experience

Shift Trainer

KMC Mining –

General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Senior Trainer, the role of the Shift Trainer is to ensure training of all operation’s personnel on shift is adequately provided in order to maintain a safe and reliable operation. In addition, assess the operators in accordance with the company's standards and practices. The Shift Trainer will work closely with Supervision and assist where required. In addition, the Shift Trainer is responsible for promoting the Thiess KMC safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, Company policy, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of the Thiess KMC Joint Venture.

Specific Accountabilities: 

  • Provide fair, accurate and thorough assessments of employee skills and abilities;
  • Evaluate new hires for competency and determine what training is necessary;
  • Ensure assessments are completed clearly and resulting paper work is submitted to the right departments;
  • Liaise with the Director of Health, Safety and Training and inform on any constraints or challenges in order to reach an appropriate solution;
  • Assist with the development and updates of the assessment tools which emphasize employee compliance to KMC Mining’s policies and procedures;
  • Provide employees with comprehensive training in equipment operation; emphasizing KMC’s safe work procedures. In addition, participate in all tool box talks.
  • Continuously conduct FLRA audits along with completing Job Safety Observations;
  • Ensure employee training records are accurate, thorough and up to date;
  • Remain informed in regards to changes in customer requirements.
  • Build and maintain solid relationships with employees and client(s) and ensure mentorship of KMC Operators personnel;
  • Ensure all incidents are reported, respecting timelines and KMC’s reporting model;
  • Assist with safety investigations where required;
  • Fully participate in the Health & Safety activities on the project, including inspections, job hazard analysis, safety meetings, and investigation processes;

Senior Engineer (Mining)

KMC Mining –

General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Manager - Technical Services, the Senior Engineer (Mining) provides support to the corporate Business Development function for managing bid responses and also to the Engineering and Financial teams for budgeting and forecasting. Accountabilities will include managing the process of responding to customer Request for Proposals (RFPs), providing estimates for business opportunities, and forecasts/budgets for KMC internal requirements. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for promoting the safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, KMC policies, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of KMC Mining.

Specific Accountabilities: 

  • Responsible for more complex processes following defined standards and practices. This may include a variety of duties e.g. preparing or reviewing forms for specific content for processing, producing reports such as month end summaries or business case recommendations.
  • Responsible for diversified analysis, reviewing, interpreting and advising on policies and procedures. May provide interpretation on exceptions to policies and procedures for internal or external parties, which may require developing solutions or recommendations on course of action.
  • Coordinate and/or prepare full cost estimates on civil and/or earthworks projects for tender or other business development activities. Activites can includematerials, labour and equipment cost estimations, execution strategy and planning, and specifications required to successfully bid and execute projects.
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation and contingency.
  • Establish standard unit costs, labour rates, equipment rates and productivity factors.
  • Provide technical assistance for contract management and change orders as required.
  • Maintain historical bidding results (ie, win, loss; and reasons for both)
  • Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.

Formal Education: *  

  • Undergraduate degree in a Mining related discipline

Work Experience:

  • 5 years’ occupational experience in the Mining industry
  • 5-8 years’ managerial experience in the Mining industry
